Storybird
Storybird is an online story creating site that uses artwork to inspire story writing. This highly visual site has a high educational value as students become authors of their own short stories and follow authors around the world.
Storybird is a visual writing tool that promotes engagement in reading and writing for students. Teachers are able to register for free or pro (paid), giving them access to published short stories from around the world and a safe area for their students to develop their writing skills.
Once registered, classes can be added by creating accounts for each student, or by joining students to the teacher account. Students are able to explore stories published on the site and develop a list of their favourite authors and stories to follow. Storybird also gives students the opportunity to become authors of their own short stories, inspired by pieces of artwork on the site. By reversing the writing process, students are given the stimulus to their writing, allowing them to interpret an image any way they wish - "unlocking the story inside".
Classes registered to Storybird are kept private to allow students to work in a safe environment, although they can publicly publish their stories if they wish, through a personal account. A class library is automatically developed with everything published by students for peer and teacher review. Assignments can be set by the teacher for students to complete, with the ability to set grades upon completion (if have the pro account).

Recommendation
Storybird is an excellent literacy tool for teachers who wish to engage their students in story writing and the world of reading. The privacy of registered classes allow for a safe environment for students to work, with only peer and teacher interaction. I believe this approach to writing to be engaging for students that will result in individual stories that students value.
